Anne Day

Jo Brown, Drama Society Chairman writes;

It was with a sad heart that I was informed of the death of Anne Day.

As you all know, Anne was a stalwart member of the Drama Society for many years and a most accomplished actress who could turn her hand to almost anything.

Her comic timing was impeccable. Her portrayal of Madam Arcati in Blithe Spirit is something I will always remember and her dramatic interpretation of Sarat Carn in Bonaventure was outstanding; only two of the many memorable roles she has taken over the years.

Both Anne and Alan were staunch supporters of the Drama Society and for many, many years brought a large party of folk to see every production.   On speaking to Anne after the show her criticism was always supportive, constructive and to be taken note of, certainly not the “that was the best thing you’ve ever done” that we tend to hear from a lot of people!   I was always very grateful to take on board all she had to say.

Anne was a lovely lady who loved life and with whom I have enjoyed many happy times both on stage and off as I am sure have we all.  There is one thing for sure, that whenever we reminisce about times gone by, Anne Day will always be a big  part of  all those memories. We shall miss her greatly.

Anne as Grace in The Winslow Boy in 1990

As Helen in A Pack of Lies in 1988 with Monica Turner

…….and with John Fort in the same play.

In 1983 As Time Goes By was a eclectic mix of song and dance, this being a cutting from the Leicester Mercury, I believe.

Almost unrecognisable on the right is Anne, with Monica Turner on the left, a triumph of make-up and disguise.

These photographs are scanned from the drama societys archive. They are my personal selection drawn from the great variety of roles Anne has played over the years.

If anyone has any other suitable photos I am quite happy to scan them and add them to these.
